  17. <p>     For months, basketball wizard and U.S. AIDS commissioner
  18. MAGIC JOHNSON has refereed George Bush's war on the epidemic --
  19. and cried foul. Almost as soon as he stepped into his new post,
  20. Magic began a full-court press to increase funds for aids
  21. research and treatment -- and met with frustration. Now the
  22. HIV-positive athlete has in essence issued an ultimatum -- if
  23. there is no move to increase the AIDS budget by the time he
  24. returns from the Barcelona Olympics, he will quit. "He does not
  25. believe the President is doing enough," says Johnson's
  26. spokesman, Lon Rosen. Johnson has also said he would not be
  27. supporting Bush for re-election. Anyone who thought Magic would
  28. be a figurehead knows better now.
